Pembrokeshire

I (more than) survived my three nights in a tent alongside J's yurt, on the (at times windswept) Pembrokeshire coast, close to the Ceredigion border. My friend J has chosen a magnificent spot to spend her summer, and I felt very privileged to share a few days there with her.

And here's the view from my tent.

We sat inside the yurt, gazing out at the ever-changing sea, and across to Cardigan Island through the doorway, for hours at a time. The beauty of the yurt is you can have a feeling of being inside and outside at the same time. It is very light inside, yet cosy, and while you sit there you feel as close as can be to the land and the sea.

The yurt, made by J herself on a course in Cornwall many years ago, is a thing of considerable beauty and elegance.

When we weren't simply gazing out to sea, we pottered on beaches, walked along fantastic stretches of the coast path, picked blackberries, read, ate, talked, and were silent.

Wonderful pictures and an account that almost has me aspiring to a bit of tent dwelling on that beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline. Actually, the yurt is inspirational and I'm going to check them out online to see what comes up.

I gave up tenting years ago, finding them too claustrophobic and damp, but that yurt is lovely and bright! As is the location. Hope you're feeling all restored and refreshed.

The yurt is indeed beautiful, and actually the tent you had looks quite bright and capacious. I like the clear skylight in the yurt, it looks a bit like the open top of the dome of the Pantheon in Rome!

Glad you had such a wonderful time.

As a former yurt-dweller, I am curious at the lack of "belly bands" around the outside. The Mongols use them (don't know what material they use), and we had modern-day ratchet straps that we'd hook together, anchored on eyehooks in the doorframe. They keep the wind from blowing the wallcurtains about, and sturdy up the expandable inner frame as well.

Gorgeous location!!!
