Willowherb

Rosebay Willowherb, Chamerion angustifolium, to give it its full names, photographed on the last day of July.

And I discovered today the following:

Known as Fireweed to many, particularly in North America, this name reflects the plant’s appearance following forest fires and other events which leave the earth scorched. With greater light on the earth again, C.angustifolium seeds then germinate and grow in the cleared areas...

It's a beautiful flower. I believe 'Fireweed' was the first plant to colonise many major cities after bomb damage in WW2.

Hi RR, yes that's the first thing I ever knew about it - that it grew on bomb sites. Now I am understanding it better as a sort of phoenix among plants...
