Because it is so deep and steep, the sun doesn't reach some places, and the first overnight frost hadn't melted at 3 in the afternoon. Near here I met friend S coming down with her crazy dog C, and stood and talked for ten minutes, growing very chilly, though in the sun I'd been toasty warm.
The hawthorn berries glowed.
