I've been having a cold - the first I've had in a long time - at least a year - so not the most creative of spells. The tanker was eventually rescued yesterday by a fearsome piece of equipment called a tele something (according to our builder), but not a teletransporter because I just googled that and it's something from science fiction. Which this wasn't. It was big and yellow and said JCB on it and had a very long telescopic thingy on the front. Hmm. Well, it was in the end too cold for me (with my cold) to stand outside long enough to see it actually heaving the tanker out. But it didn't finally reverse back down the lane until after 6.30 in the evening. We left the breaded haddock and baked potatoes cooling on the table to see it finally depart.
The roof's watertight now but not finished as - perhaps predictably - while they were up there they discovered something else... The mortar all down one ridge is crumbling - chunks of it flying as N, the builder's mate, demonstrated the problem from on high. So the scaffolding tower remains outside. Today was far too wild and windy for roof work. In fact tonight is the windiest I remember since we moved to this house. Roaring and whistling down and around the chimney. I am beginning to get used to it, sort of, maybe. I find it very unsettling, but I'm trying to enjoy being safe and cosy inside while it thwacks the outside world.
One other thing, in recognition of the date. I can't really add anything more to what you will find at the home of white poppies.

Reading of the 'roaring and whistling down and around the chimney' and with your locale in mind, I'm reminded of Ted Hughes' poem 'Wind' - 'This house has been at sea all night' etc.!
Thanks for the white poppy link.
Hope the roof is not too expensive.
Thanks for link, on this day.
Being warm, and cozy, and safe while the worst storms outside do their best to buffet and unsettle you, is a wonderful place indeed! Keep warm, dear Fire!
I could not believe such a huge tanker truck could even attempt that narrow country lane. Sorry to hear about the leak and further damage, hope it's not too serious and expensive. Keep cozy indoors!
